THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT DID NOT PASS AWAY IN 70AD
It’s unfortunate that there are some among us who believe that the gifts of the Spirit producing the supernatural passed away at the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD. What passed away in the fiery judgment of then was the institution of the Old Covenant and National Israel. In that event, it coincided with the establishment of God’s kingdom on the earth. The more glorious covenant has more room to express the nature of God on the earth.
As Jesus said in Mark 16: “17”These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Are there still believers after 70AD? Yes. Who does the signs follow? Believers. Anyway it’s impossible to convince one that sugar is not sweet after one tastes of it. The kingdom of God is expanding in power and glory which is also expressed in the demonstration of the Holy Spirit through his gifting.
The gifting of the Spirit is not restricted to an age. It is embedded in the New covenant. His divine nature in us necessitates happenings that supernatural in origin. Which can lead to miracles occurring for the good and benefit of men.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 12:
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
The manifestation of the Spirit is for benefit of all men both Jew and gentile. As the work of the ministry is reaching to touch lives bringing them to the unconditional love of the Father, do you think it is a bad idea if He decides to open the eyes of the blind or make the lame man walk.
As Mark says that the Lord confirmed the word with signs following. Signs are primarily for unbelieving but for the believers, it is a way of life. Andrew Wommack once commented “There are countless times when people were still skeptical after hearing me teach, but the demonstration of God’s power through the gifts turned them into believers. It’s like the teaching fills their mouths with God’s Word, then the gifts of the Holy Spirit slap them on the back and make them swallow it.”
John said in Revelation 22: “…The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” Jesus is the tree of life in the kingdom’s endless age. The Spirit of Christ produces life everywhere it reaches for the purpose of restoration. The healing of the nations is still a priority in God’s heart even after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD.
It is important that we learn to recognize and flow in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. In this New covenant, God is resident in us in His power. It’s not only a blessing to us, but the lives of other people may depend on it.
It is not reserved for Pastors and those in ministry alone. It is for any believers and can simply be activated by faith. Realize that you are carrying someone’s miracle. Don’t let it stay inside. Learn how to release it.
There is one gift of holy spirit which indwells each person when they become born again. This one spirit has nine different manifestations which can be operated by each believer.
It's true that they are manifestations of Holy Spirit, but Paul, himself, does call them gifts (plural). See I Corinthians chapter 12 (especially verse 4). He talks of the gifts (plural) in various places.
