WALKING IN THE GRACE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT
We are not spiritually gifted because of our status and faithfulness. The giftings are grace gifts (charisma in the greek). All spiritual gifts are rooted in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. You can’t work for them, you don’t pray the price for it, you don’t fast for it and it is not based on your long service award qualification. They are His gifts for the benefit of service. Not of works lest any would boast.
Don’t disqualify yourself from the operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are available as your salvation was available in Christ. You don’t become qualified because you have done good enough and neither because you have diligently sought it out. No, the gifts of the Spirit actually sought after you. To make you a candidate of grace.
That’s why Peter responded in shock when he saw the response of the people when they saw the lame man walk.
11 Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. 12 So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?“(Acts 3:11-12)
The reason many have not been able to walk in these gifts is because of the disqualification that stands in their heats.
God used Elijah in the book of James as an example of a prayer warrior, and assures the reader that Elijah was no different than all of us in that he, “was a man subject to like passions as we are” (James 5:17). This means that Elijah shared the same feelings and affections that we do.
This great prophet who called down fire from heaven and prophetically ended the drought upon the land was basically the same person who runs from the death threat that came from a woman, asks to take his life and complains that he is the only prophet still serving God.
With their imperfections they were still instruments of His power and glory even in the Old testament. Much more in this new covenant, that we can expect the move of the Spirit in our lives in more overwhelming fashion.
The Key: Faith is His grace. When you respond to the abundance of grace, the Spirit backs up with signs and wonder. Your response in boldness gives opportunity for grace to express himself. This is why the Apostles prayed for boldness in Acts 4:29-30
“Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”
As Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 12:“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:” It is given to each believer for the benefiting of all in the body of Christ. It is not for few to the benefit of some few.
Every believer is grace-gifted. We walk into the discovery by the working of the Spirit within us. As we let Him reveal his goodness in us. We will find ourselves moved by His heart and love for others. It is this divine compassion that releases the power to set people free from evil afflictions and issues.
As Scripture say in Matthew 14:14 “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.” When his compassion becomes our compassion we will the wondrous works of the Spirit in healing the sick, casting out devils and raising the dead.”
The church will not get there by “climbing more mountains in prayer” or increased “prayer and fasting” but as Paul said “I went up by revelation”. A revelation of his heart will position to heal the hurts of a dying world.
Jesus did not just die for you but rather He died as you!
