GRACE: THE RIGHT FOUNDATION TO BUILD YOUR LIFE
Jesus said that anyone who heard his sayings and applied them would be like a wiseman who built his house on the rock. The question is what were His sayings? His sayings were the new covenant that was estblished upon Him and the finished work. His sayings was not the law of Moses but the law of the new creation. He revealed the heart of the Father for all men to understand life from His position.
He said that he would build his church upon the this rock. The rock was not Peter but the revelation of Jesus. Paul said in 1 Cor.3 that:10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each ONE take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
The grace of God that Jesus and the finished work is the foundation and the rock that a wiseman would build on. It is this foundation that can keep the house (your life, family, finance, ministry etc) strong through the storms of life. In the Old testament, their foundation was the law and prophets which was a performance driven system but in the new, Jesus is. Let Jesus be centre and there will be balance.
As David wrote in Proverbs 24:3 “It takes wisdom to build a house, and understanding to set it on a firm foundation;
Paul said Christ has been made unto wisdom. Jesus is the wisdom for success in life. Our understanding is the revelation of the finished work in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
When Paul encouraged us to build on the foundation which is Jesus and him crucified. He also gave the materials on build on this foundation that will ensure triumph in life.
“Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will BECOME clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will TEST each one’s work, of what sort it is. 1 Cor. 3:12-13
The gold stands for righteousness, silver represents redemption and precious stones is a picture of the vesture of the priest in the tabernacle which stands for our worth in our God’s heart. If you build with these materials your life will manifest victory and glory.
Let everything in your life be anchored on the revelation of your redemption in Christ and your righteousness in Him. Knowing that you are his beloved is the sure guarantee in any moment of trial. Paul we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
The wood, hay and straw stands for humanity and human efforts. If we mix the law and grace it will cause an imbalance in our lives. These imbalance causes one to be uncertain of joy, peace and God’s goodness.
When the evil day (a day of trials and testing)trial comes, it always reveals where our confidence really lies. If our confidence is in our wisdom, self-righteousness, knowledge we would end up with ashes of condemnation, regret, burnout and sorrow.
When a man builds his life, family, home, business, ministry or career established in the grace of God, knowing that he is the righteousness of God, mindful that he is redeemed and that he is accepted in the beloved it positions him for victory through the storm and he will come better and not bitter.
