LET GOD LOVE YOU INSTEAD
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10)
In one of my recent teachings I asked parents in church a question. “Do you only buy clothes for your children because they requested from you?” They smiled and said no. Why did they say “No”. Its simply because every parent is delighted whenever their children look god and happy.
So I asked why do think that God is any lesser and that he has to learn from us. We have produced a system that puts us as the caretaker and caregiver. That God cannot simply love us unless we have done something measureable to the kind of love we expect from Him.
We have often heard from the pulpit “You have to love God more! You must be on fire for God!” at the end of the day what do we have? Failed attempts and “continuous rededicated lives”. We have twisted the order.
This is how the Bible defines Love for us: “…this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us…” Yes, it is not about our love for Him, but His love for us!
At this point someone might be quick to object that the bible says that we must love God with all your heart, soul and strength!
According to the law (Deuteronomy 6:5) that is true, and even Jesus taught that as the great commandment IN THE LAW when He walked on earth. (Matthew 22:37) When Jesus died on the cross, that system was over.. At the cross, He became the very fulfillment of this law for us when He loved us with all His heart, soul and strength, by laying down His body and life on the cross for us.
We must see today that we have a new command that is only possible to live when we first understand his love. Today, we are no longer under the law but under grace. And grace tells us that God loves us, not that we love God. Yet, we will love Him when we see how much He loves us. The Bible says that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us! (Romans 5:8) That’s how much He loves us!
God wants to furnish your life with His goodness and pleasure but it will be difficult to access it when we choose do it on our own terms which is self-righteousness. Trying to prove to him that you can “outlove” God is plain pride and will only keep you cheated from the benefits of this covenant.
He wants to shower His love for you by taking care of your bills, business, family, ministry and life. If you give Him the chance you will see manifest Ephesians 3:20 in your life.
“Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]” (AMP)
He loves you unconditionally regardless of who you are or what you have done because His love is not dependent on you but on Himself. He will never stop loving you. So let the Father love you today. Don’t worry about loving Him. The more of His love you receive, the more you will fall in love with Him!
